Astros target fourth straight win in finale with Cincy

Baseball Betting Lines

04/19/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Houston Astros aim for their fourth straight victory tonight when they wrap a brief two-game series with the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park.

On Wednesday, Jason Lane's three-run home run highlighted a big eighth inning as Houston downed Cincinnati, 7-2.

Chris Sampson (2-0) went seven strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out two. Dan Wheeler pitched two scoreless innings in relief for Houston, which has won three in a row and six of its last seven games.

Mike Lamb and Brad Ausmus both doubled and scored a run for Houston, which began a nine-game road trip yesterday.

Brandon Phillips and Josh Hamilton both hit solo homers for the Reds, who had just five hits in the game and have lost three of five. Todd Coffey (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs over two-thirds of an inning.

The Reds have still won 10 of their last 16 against Houston.

Cincinnati starter Aaron Harang pitched well enough to win, yielding just one run on three hits and two walks, while striking out eight. The Reds fell to 1-2 on a seven-game homestand that next features a visit by the Phillies.

It will be a special night for the Reds this evening, as the club will unveil a jersey above the home bullpen in memory of former pitching coach Vern Ruhle, who died January 20 of complications from a donor stem cell transplant for the treatment of multiple myeloma.

Right-hander Bronson Arroyo takes the hill for Cincinnati in search for his first win of the season. He fell to 0-2 on Saturday, as he allowed six runs -- just two earned -- on eight hits in 6 2/3 frames against the Cubs.

In addition to poor defense last time out, the Reds have scored just three total runs over Arroyo's three starts.

Arroyo went 1-2 with a 6.00 earned run average in four games last season against Houston, and is 3-2 with a 5.51 ERA in 13 lifetime outings against the club, seven of those starts.

Just one win away from 125 in his career, righty Woody Williams will start for Houston. Williams, though, has yet to earn a win in an Astros uniform after signing with the club as a free agent.

He is 0-2 with a 5.63 ERA through his first three starts of the season, taking a loss last time out. Against Chicago on Saturday, Williams was tagged for six runs, five of them earned, on eight hits in 5 1/3 frames.

Williams will face the Reds for the 20th time (all starts) in his career and for the first time since July of 2005. He is 8-5 in that span with a 5.34 ERA.
