Eagles rally late to beat Giants in key NFC East battle

East Rutherford, NJ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jeff Garcia threw a go-ahead touchdown
pass with under three minutes left in the fourth to Reggie Brown, and the
Philadelphia defense came up with a big turnover on the next drive to seal a
36-22 victory over the New York Giants.
The win puts the Eagles in the driver seat in the NFC wild card race. At 8-6,
the Eagles lead the race over about six teams for a postseason birth.
Philadelphia, which has won three straight, next travels to Dallas to complete
a three-game NFC East road trip on Christmas Day against the 9-5 Cowboys.
A win in Dallas and over Atlanta in the season finale would give the Eagles
the division title.
The Giants, meanwhile, fell to 7-7. Once atop the NFC East, New York has lost
five of its last six and are tied with the 7-7 Falcons for the second wild
card spot. Four other teams are in the NFC are 6-8.
Garcia threw for 237 yards on 19-of-28 throwing, but was picked off for the
first time in four starts this season. Garcia's interception broke a string of
164 straight pass attempts without an interception.
Brown made four catches for 77 yards, while Brian Westbrook rushed for 97
yards and a pair of touchdowns. Westbrook went over 1,000 yards rushing on the
season for the first time in his career.
The Eagles' shaky run defense held New York running back Tiki Barber to just
75 yards. Barber did score a touchdown though, while Brandon Jacobs also
scored on the ground.
In all, the Philadelphia defense forced four turnovers in the win. Two came
from Eli Manning, who was intercepted twice. The Giants signal caller threw
for 282 yards in defeat.
Plaxico Burress made six catches for 120 yards and Jeremy Shockey added eight
receptions for 70 yards.

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.

Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.
Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.
Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.
All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.
A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
