Hard to follow: Chicago concludes set with Texas after no-hitter

04/19/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Javier Vazquez tries to follow up Mark Buehrle's brilliant no-hitter this evening with his third win in as many starts when the Chicago White Sox complete a three-game set with the Texas Rangers at U.S. Cellular Field.

In the second game of this series on Wednesday Buehrle was masterful, as he tossed the first no-hitter for the White Sox since 1991 and the 16th in team history to lead Chicago to a 6-0 win.

Buehrle (1-0) finished with eight strikeouts and just one walk. He faced the minimum amount of batters, as he quickly picked off Sammy Sosa at first base after giving up the free pass in the fifth.

The game ended when Gerald Laird hit a slow grounder to third base, and Joe Crede came up with the ball near the line and threw out Laird as the celebration started on the field.

Buehrle's previous low-hit game was one, versus Tampa Bay on August 3, 2001.

Jim Thome hit two solo homers, while Jermaine Dye belted a grand slam for the White Sox, who snapped a three-game slide.

Kevin Millwood (2-2) was tagged for five runs on five hits over five innings for Texas, which won the opener of the three-game set, 8-1.

Vazquez, who was signed to a three-year contract extension this offseason, has been incredible for the White Sox in the early going. After tossing 6 2/3 scoreless innings to win his first start, Vazquez surrendered a pair of runs and eight hits over 5 1/3 frames to nail down the win in his most recent outing on Thursday against the Cleveland Indians.

The 30-year-old right-hander, who is pitching to a 1.50 earned run average this season, has started three games against the Rangers and is 2-1 against them with a 6.87 ERA.

As good as Vazquez has been, Texas starter Vicente Padilla has been just as bad. Padilla, who re-signed with the Rangers this winter, has lost all three of his starts, giving up 6.62 runs per game in doing so.

Padilla's latest setback came on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners, as he surrendered six runs (four earned) on six hits in six innings.

The 29-year-old right-hander is 1-2 lifetime against the White Sox with a 3.86 ERA in four starts.

Texas has now won five of its last eight games at U.S. Cellular Field dating back to the start of the 2006 campaign.
