The visitors were without Christian Rigano and that proved to be a problem for
the Messina team, but the actions of manager Bruno Giordano took the spotlight
of problematic occurrences on the afternoon, as the boss was sent from the
bench after slapping a goal-scoring Marco Materazzi on the back of the head in
a sideline meeting between the two.
Inter's top-scoring Hernan Crespo did not suit-up for the match, giving Zlatan
Ibrahimovic the start, a beneficial move for the hosts, as the striker was the
second scorer in the contest.
A busy game began with a couple of Messina chances when Arturo Di Napoli hit a
powerful 25-yarder saved by Julio Cesar four minutes in, before an Alessandro
Parisi 30-yarder brought Cesar into play again minutes later.
In the 24th minute, Inter got its best chance from a Luis Figo, Ibrahimovic
combination that ended in a curled shot that rung off the post, followed by a
Javier Zanetti attempt that was smothered by goalkeeper Marco Storari only
minutes later.
It wasn't until after the half that the net began dancing. Nicolas Burdisso's
cross in the final third brought Ibrahimovic airborne, deflecting a header
across the area to a well-timed bicycle-kick from Materazzi for the opener,
four minutes into the second stanza.
It took only 10 minutes for the hosts to strike again when a streaking
Sisenado Maicon beat a pair of defenders to feed Ibrahimovic, whose laser
whizzed past Storari and landed in the back of the net for the insurance
tally.
Despite finishing the match with a couple of chances that grazed the post,
Messina couldn't pick up any points on the day against the first-place Inter
Milan.
In the other Serie A Sunday matches, a much-anticipated two-three match
ended in a 4-0 drubbing, handed out by second-place Roma over third-spot
Palermo at the Stadio Olimpico.
A textbook overhead strike by Fabio Quagliarella carried Sampdoria to a 1-0
road-win against Reggina at the Stadio Oreste Granillo, while Lazio escaped
with a share of the points after having Tommaso Rocchi sent off in the 60th
minute during its 1-1 finish at Livorno.
It was a battle of relegation teams when Parma and Chievo played to a 2-2
stalemate, as an 85th-minute equalizer from Mario Frick gave Siena a 1-1 draw
against a visiting Atalanta squad. Ascoli was handed its 10th defeat of the
season, falling 2-0 to Torino at the Stadio Cino e Lillo del Duca.

Arizona charged out of the gates and built a 24-6 halftime lead that had the Eagles venerable defense reeling. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did most of the damage, connecting on three first half touchdowns.
Arizona, however, could not sustain their momentum and the Eagles took a 25-24 with 10:45 left to play in the fourth. The Cardinals, with the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance hanging in the balance, mounted a fourteen play, 72 yard touchdown drive that consumed 7:52 off the clock. Warner hit running back Tim Hightower on a short screen for the go-ahead, game clinching score that will forever live in Cardinal infamy.
