Milwaukee aims to brew more wins against Pirates

(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Pittsburgh Pirates will try to get back on the winning
track this afternoon when they close out a short two-game series against the
Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.
Pittsburgh had a two-game winning streak stopped with Wednesday's 7-3 setback
in the series opener. Jason Bay went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for
the Pirates, while Chris Duffy finished 2-for-4 and scored once.
Pirates starter Paul Maholm (0-2) surrendered five runs on 10 hits over six
innings of work. He did not walk a batter and struck out three in a losing
cause.
Toeing the rubber for the Bucos today will be Zach Duke. Duke, who turns 24
today, is 1-1 with a 7.20 ERA in three starts this season. Duke was roughed up
in his previous start last Friday versus San Francisco, yielding seven runs
and seven hits in just two innings of work.
In seven career starts versus Milwaukee, Duke owns a 3-1 record with a 3.63
earned run average.
Meanwhile, the NL Central-leading Brewers have won five of their last seven
games. In Wednesday's win over the Pirates, Milwaukee starter Claudio Vargas
(1-0) allowed two runs -- one earned -- on five hits with two walks and a
career-high 11 strikeouts in six innings.
Bill Hall clubbed a two-run homer, had three RBI and scored twice for
Milwaukee. Kevin Mench finished with three hits, an RBI and two runs scored to
help the cause.
Milwaukee will send Jeff Suppan to the mound this afternoon, and the righty is
1-2 with a 3.72 ERA this season. Suppan, who was acquired in the offseason,
ended a personal two-game losing streak in his last start on Saturday against
his former club, the St. Louis Cardinals.
Suppan gave up two runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings against the defending
World Series champions. He struck out five batters and did not issue a walk.
In 14 career starts against Pittsburgh, Suppan is 7-3 with a complete game and
a 3.90 earned run average.
The Pirates won nine of the 16 matchups between these NL Central foes last
season, but went just 2-4 at Miller Park over that stretch. The Brewers are
11-5 in their last 16 encounters with Pittsburgh in Milwaukee.
